BOVEN DIGOEL – On Thursday (12/14), members of the central and Papua branches of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) traveled to Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group’s office. At the building located in Asiki Subvillage, Jair District, they held a session to promote human rights fulfilment in office environments.
Prabianto Mukti Wibowo, commissioner of the central branch, talked about implementing human rights due diligence as one way for companies to proactively avoid committing human rights violations.
“There are six elements in corporate human rights due diligence: responsible business conduct through management policies, identification of impacts that harm the organization and business partners, mitigation of these impacts, mitigation assessment, information sharing on the mitigation steps taken, and remediation or restoration,” Wibowo said.
Meanwhile, TSE Group director Ronny Makal shared how the firm has always focused on the rights of people in and out of its operational sites. He showed how TSE Group has provided jobs and rolled out CSC (Corporate Social Contribution) programs for the local society.
“We employ 12,078 workers, 26% of whom come from the local labor force. We also have CSC or Corporate Social Contribution programs that deal with healthcare, educational, economic, infrastructural, and environmental matters to build a better social environment for local communities.”
Following a coordination and communication meeting on due diligence, the session continued with a visit to the Asiki Clinic. This modern health facility was built by TSE Group for its workforce, as well as its neighbors.
