MERAUKE – PT Papua Agro Lestari (PAL) donated two public bathroom and toilet units, known locally as MCK (Mandi, Cuci, Kakus or “Bathe, Wash, Discharge Waste” facilities) to residents of Guiss (Sub)village in Rawa Kasat, Ulilin District, Merauke Regency on Saturday (6/24).
This donation is part of a series of contributions made by the Tunas Sawa Erma Group subsidiary to bring better community health and a cleaner environment for the locals. These buildings come with access to clean water and stalls separated by gender.
PT PAL’s general manager Sabara Dawenan handed over the facilities to Guiss community representative Glen Payes Maikuin in a short ceremony. The people are expected to practice clean and healthy lifestyles and maintain the bathrooms and lavatories as much as they can to keep them functional in the long term.
“We hope these buildings will be used well, and help increase awareness to keep up the practice promoted by the company,” said Dawenan.
Bathing, washing, and toilet centers are indispensable, especially for settlements far removed from health facilities. Proper sanitation and cleanliness can protect the community and prevent illnesses, like diarrhea, from emerging.
This was what made Maikuin express his gratitude for PT PAL’s help. “On behalf of the people here, I’d like to appreciate the company for its contribution to our (sub)village. We’ll make sure to keep these buildings in working condition.”
