BOVEN DIGOEL – As a company focused on sustainability, Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group called young Papuans to join environmental preservation efforts through PT Berkat Cipta Abadi (BCA)’s cleanup event on Saturday (11/4). YPK Harapan Selil Elementary in Ulilin District, Merauke Regency responded by sending its students.
Company officers, schoolchildren, and members of the public combined their efforts to remove waste from the church, mosque, and market near PT BCA’s base. This event is an extension of the company’s regular program “Clean Saturday”, an initiative towards safer, cleaner workplace.
Having reaped benefits from this program, BCA felt the need to extend Clean Saturday to public facilities and especially schools as a way to build youth awareness of environmental hygiene and longevity.
“With this clean-living movement, we hope everyone, especially young people, are aware that environmental cleanliness is crucial for sustainability, and that they can start with small actions like picking up and managing trash to create a healthier, cleaner living environment,” said BCA representative Muhamad Santoso.
Students had fun at the event. In their words, it “felt like a game, but with [real, tangible] rewards”. Overall, it was a memorable experience.
Maintaining environmental hygiene should be taught early. We can do this through simple activities, like this cleanup. A cleaner environment will lead to a healthier community.
