BOVEN DIGOEL – Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE) Group staged a quiz competition for junior high school students on Friday (5/19), which was also National Education Day. This contest was a way to encourage and boost the confidence of those studying in Papua’s tiny villages.
Going with the theme “To a Smarter, More Careful Generation” (Generasi Cerdas Generasi Cermat), the event took place at TSE Group’s Training Room in Asiki (Sub)village in Jair District. It involved seven groups of students representing schools around the company area: Asiki 1 Public Junior High (SMPN 1 Asiki), Camp 19 Public Junior High (SMPN Camp 19), Jair Public Junior High (SMPN Jair), Ujung Kia Public Junior High (SMPN Ujung Kia), Mam Public Junior High (SMPN Mam), Terek Subur Public Junior High (SMPN Terek Subur), and Nurush Shobah Islamic Junior High (MTS Nurush Shobah).
The quiz had two rounds: Elimination and Final. In the first one, all groups must race to answer 25 questions from the committee, where they would receive one point for each correct answer. Three groups with the highest number of points would go to the next stage.
Asiki 1, Nurush Shobah, and Jair all passed the first round. In the finals, they continued to compete on which has the best academic knowledge. The system at this level was similar to the previous one, where the school with the highest score would be declared winner.
After a long, fierce battle, Nurush Shobah came out on top with 1,600 points. Second place was Jair with 750 points, and third was Asiki 1 with 700 points.
TSE Group’s general manager Park Jibae said in his greeting that winning and losing are normal, and part of the game. What’s important, he said, is to be proud of the self for representing the school. “I hope today’s event helps you get more confident and motivated to study. We [the company] will always support these kinds of activities,” he added.
This academic match is the first to be held among nearby schools, which were happy to have the TSE-hosted event.
“On behalf of the educational institution, we are very grateful for TSE’s attention for far-flung schools in Papua and its support through this contest. And we’d like to see this [event] continue,” said Asiki 1 vice principal Klementina Apay to the PR team.
